Take 4 #8: Anti Ageing things you can do in your 20’s

It’s a scary thought that at 25 our skin starts to slow down and is classed as ‘mature’.  However, while many of us will not be using specific anti ageing products at this age or younger (we don’t need to!), there are certain things we can do with ease to help stave off those pesky wrinkles.

  1. DRINK MORE WATER Unsurprisingly this is something that can aid our general health, but drinking more water will keep our skin clear and full of moisture, and keep it working to its full potential. This is one thing I find hard to do as my job doesn’t allow me to drink at regular intervals, however, when I am able to drink more often I definitely feel better in myself and I know its doing all sorted of good.
  2. WEAR SPF The suns rays are some of the most damaging things for our skin.  Everyone loves a tan, but who would want to look like a wrinkly leather handbag at 40? The rays penetrate the skins layers and can create free radicals (naughty cells) which in turn damage the collagen and elastin.  These are the parts of the skins structure that gives it its youthful look (plump, smooth, line free).  They naturally break down with age, but many things speed up the ageing process, such as the sun and external pollution.  Wearing SPF gives your skin chance to protect itself from those damaging rays. This goes for winter as well as summer!
  3. MOISTURISE NECK AND HANDS We all know that our eyes ages first, mainly because the skin is much thinner, but the neck and backs of hands also show age sooner than other non-exposted areas.  When you’re young you don’t need anymore products to protect these areas, just take any excess moisturiser down onto the neck and then run over the backs of your hands with the last ‘dregs’.  Simple but effective!
  4. SLEEP Now I can’t claim I do this myself, but your skin will thank you in the future if you get a good nights sleep on a regular basis.  As we all know 8 hours is about right.  We can perform better in our day jobs, but sleep is when the skin repairs itself.  And that is sleep, not just resting.  So again if the skin repairs itself correctly while your younger it will repair more effectively and stave off ageing for longer!

I hope you’ve found those tips helpful, does anyone do things like this already?

Take 4: #7 Beauty Wishlist

20140401-062535.jpg

A small Wishlist to curb my spending habit. Sometimes these satisfy my need to buy things, other times I just realise how much I really do want them!

Makeup Forever HD Foundation This has been on my mind for very long time now! I’m just a bit wary about purchasing online when I’ve never felt the product before or seen any colours up close. Would definitely be purchased if I was heading to the US soon!

Sigma Brush Travel Kit Make Me Crazy Perfect selection of travel brushes, in my favourite colour and complete with a holder! What’s not to love!

Urban Decay Naked 2 palette I’ve done a lot of thinking about these Naked palettes and decided that this is definitely the one I’d get most use out of. I am definitely treating myself when the counter opens in Selfridges Birmingham!

Alpha H Liquid Gold A much hyped product, but does it really work?! After my posts about my skin, I’ve been thinking I need something like this to try to reduce the redness I have. If you’ve used it please comment and let me know how you’ve got on with it. While looking for an image I found it sold by QVC 200ml for £37! (Bearing in mind the link above is £31 for 100ml that’s a steal!)

What’s on your wishlist at the moment?

I got some really good feedback from my Acne Journey post last week, so I thought I’d show you exactly what I’ve been using and doing in order to improve the state of my skin.

Cleanser
My favourite cleanser to remove makeup is Clarins Gentle Foaming Cleanser with cottonseed. I’ve used this for years and it just gets rid of everything!! I use this as a my main first cleanse to remove my makeup at night. It’s soft on my skin but just dissolves makeup so easily, I couldn’t be without!
One of the main changes to my routine was using a cleansing balm. Both of the ones I’ve used are organic and just give me that extra deep clean feeling afterwards. I’ve used the Jennifer Young Improve and Remove Cleansing Balm, and a DIY one. I’ve found that massaging these into dry skin after my first cleanse seems to work wonders. For one thing it relaxes me before going to bed, but my skin feels soothed and rejuvenated by just a 5 minute massage!
I saw the DIY Cleansing Balm on Gemsmaquillage a while ago. Click the link to see how to make it.

Toner
I’m not great with toner, but again I’ve been using the Jennifer Young Facial Spritz after my cleanse. It instantly refreshes my skin and preps it for whatever I use next.

Serum
For the morning I like moisture, so I reach for the Clarins HydraQuench Bi Phase Serum. So light, but so powerful and effective for dehydrated skin! Although I have acne, my skin is definitely dry/dehydrated so getting water and moisture into my skin is a priority!
For evening, I’ve been loving the Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair 2. A tiny drop of this and I’m warding off any early signs if ageing as well as intensively hydrating and repairing my skin!

Moisturiser
For morning, I follow my Clarins serum with the Clarins HydraQuench Cream. This range is all about boosting water levels, so even if your skin is oily, you can use this range. You just need the right texture. The cream is for a normal/dry skin. It sinks into my skin so quickly, and instantly feels comfortable and ready for primer or foundation.
For night I’ve been using a slightly richer formula, the Jennifer Young Improve and Remove Moisuriser. This one can be used for daytime too, I just find it’s slightly too rich. However, it’s perfect for nighttime. It smells like a spa and just relaxes me before bed!

Exfoliator
I try not to over exfoliate my skin, but I’m aware that it improves the results of all other products you use so try to do it around twice per week (oily skin should only really need it once). I flit between a chemical exfoliant, Clarins Gentle Exfoliating Toner, and a manual scrub, Clarins Gentle Refiner. I sometimes even mix a little of both of these products at the same time, as they do a similar thing in their TriActive Facials.

Masks
I have recently been using the Origins Clear Improvements Charcoal Clay Mask once per week. It literally feels like it’s drawing everything bad out of your skin. Although, I don’t really like how my skin feels after using it, so I whack on some Clarins (surprise surprise!) HydraQuench Cream Mask. This again just gets more moisture into my skin.

I feel that routine in itself is what has helped my skin so this is the basics of what I do:
Evening – Double cleanse, toner, eye cream, serum, moisturiser
Morning – Single cleanse with cleansing balm, toner, eye cream, serum, moisturiser
Twice per week (usually at night)  Double cleanse, exfoliate, mask x2, eye cream, serum, moisturiser.

I have also kept these products for a good few months. I’ve not been chopping and changing what I use, which I also think has helped.  My skin is settled into this little routine and it seems happy with it, so I’ll be sticking with it for a while.  The only thing I’d really like to try is the Alpha H Liquid Gold. Anyone tried it?

Take 4 #4

A rare weekend off for me! I would normally be lolling around in bed until the wee hours of the afternoon, but today I’m actually heading to London to be part of Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway audience! There’s a small possibility that I’ll be picked to play Win the Ads, but if not I will have had the best time there!

Whilst in London we hope to go to Angel after the show, take in a few bars and grab some munch. Any recommendations there or anywhere else close to the south bank would be greatly received!

I’ve had a great response so far from my Acne Journey post, so thank you for tweeting me/commenting or getting in touch with words of encouragement. It really means a lot!

Going all out and proclaiming my love for the Maybelline Colossal Volum’ Express Smokey Eyes mascara. I’ve been reaching for this all week, even over my Benefit They’re Real!

Have a lovely weekend, what’s everyone going to be up to?

The Seven Beauty Sins | TAG

One of my favourite YouTube channels to watch is Alix’s from I Covet Thee. (Link to her Beauty Sins video)  I crush over her hair in every video and she has the most perfect skin! Anyway, gush over, I was scrolling back through some of her videos and came across this tag and really liked it! It’s just a little different to the ones I’ve done before.
