Beauty Haul April 2016

So this morning I decided to do something I was extremely nervous about… a live video on Facebook! 🙈

I have picked up quite a few bits over the last few weeks so I thought I’d show my choices in a haul video! I will not claim to be any ‘good’ at this, but I always personally prefer watching hauls rather than reading about them! I felt that because it was live, I could quite naturally talk about what I had bought, and also knowing that I couldn’t edit anything made me relax a little bit as well!

Nothing has been insanely expensive, all drugstore or eBay.

I am tending to upload different things to my Facebook page and Instagram account, so be sure to follow me to keep up to date with everything I’m doing, I’d love to see you there too!

Enjoy! …

Take 4 #5: The Red Edit

The Red Lip is something that will never go out of fashion, and is the easiest way to feel glam and ‘done’ without a huge amount of effort.  A slick of red lippie can take a real toned down neutral eye daytime look, to a glam ‘cocktails straight from work’ evening look.

I have found that having a red lip ‘wardrobe’ never leaves you short, regardless of occasion! For a hydrating slightly glossy lip, look no further than the Revlon Colourburst Laquer Balm in Femme Fatale, easy to slick on, but requires frequent touch ups because of texture. I do find it stains very slightly but nothing a good micellar water can’t undo!

For that retro glam feel, one of the most famous reds of the moment: MAC Ruby Woo. This retro matte texture gives that long lasting perfect pout. Sometimes matte textures feel drying, but a hint of Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm underneath is hydrating enough but still keeps the lipstick matte. I always apply a red lip liner with this one, it gives a more precise application and if you fill in the entire lip first, if you get any wear you’ve still got colour underneath!

For a slightly more subtle matte finish, NARS Velvet Matt Lip Pencil in Pop Life is a great one to try. Somehow this formula feels amazingly light, almost as if there’s nothing on your lips. I usually think I need to reapply but the staying power is pretty good for such a smooth light feeling texture. It’s a slightly softer orangey red in comparison to Ruby Woo, but a great ‘day off’ hint of colour.

If you’re going for full on glamour with shine and intense pigment, you really can’t beat Rimmel Apolcalips in Big Bang. I’m still getting used to the texture of this, but the colour pay off is amazing! I sometimes worry with glossier textures that they’re going to slide around, so I’d always blot off any excess if I was going to eat or drink. I’ve found that this one give me an inner confidence just because I know it’s so eye catching!

A red lip is a statement, and there are so many ways of wearing it. It’s a case of being patient and trying a few types to see which suit you best!

what’s your favourite lip colour? Have you used any of these before?

What I’m Wearing

Simple post on what I’m wearing today.  It’s my day off from work and I sometimes try to experiment with my makeup a little more as I can usually spend a bit more time on it.  Its these days that I try out new products and if I do like them I will then test them on a full day at work as that gives me a good idea on longevity of a product.

I always go for comfort on a day off, if I actually leave the house I’m usually sporting my A&F Super Skinny Jeans and a slouchy H&M t shirt – I just can’t get enough of them! Today I’ve paired these with my Primark black ankle boots and my faux leather jacket and a plain black pashmina scarf.

Makeup wise I’ve kept it pretty low key on eyes with a super bold red lip.  My all time favourite foundation Clarins Everlasting (review) then just a wash of MAC Paint Pot in Groundwork followed by Benefit They’re Real Mascara on the eyes; Natural Collection Blush in Pink Cloud and Rimmel Apocalips in Big Bang on the lips. It is the brightest glossiest lip product I own I think! This is its first outing so I’m looking forward to comparing it to my other lip products.

Hope you’re all having a good day!
xx

Sometimes I worry that haul posts get a bit boring to read as there’s so many about. Personally, I love reading them and seeing what gems other people have picked up! Most of the things I picked up recently I’ve been able to use and can give a first impression review for you here. I have swatches the lip products and did a short video on Instagram of these products, you can find me here.

Yet again after being in Boots I’m always thinking that I should just do the ‘Blogger made me buy it tag’ because almost everything I pick up can be tracked back to a blogger! Anyone would think I don’t have mind of my own!

Revlon Colour Burst Lacquer Balm in Provocateur Femme Fatale (135)  I tried a few is these but this one really took my fancy. I also considered the matte ones too but it plumped for this one in the end. When I tried this on at home I felt that I needed a bit of a tan to be able to pull this one off, but as luck would have it I’m going to Egypt next week! #winner

Revlon Lip Butter in Sweet Tart The second one in my collection and another pink lip product! A much more sheer finish to the lips than the crayon, but the colours is beautiful. This actually suits me better than the other one I have (Strawberry Shortcake), so I think this will be a staple in my everyday makeup bag.

Rimmel Aplocalips Nova (102) A lot of ummm-ing and ahhh-ing was done when these first came out and I decided against one at the time, but now I feel I need one in my lip collection. I think I should’ve gone for a bright red as I’m not sure this is the perfect nude pink now that I’ve slightly changed hair colour. Pigmentation and staying power seem incredible though!

Maybelline Colour Tattoo in On and On Bronze Yes, I caved! I wasn’t too keen on the other shades available in this product other than Pomegranate, but I felt this would be an easy one to wear whilst on holiday!

Loreal Skin Perfection Micellar Solution This is a repurchase for me after I had this during the summer. I loved the product, hated the packaging! But for about 3 quid, I can’t complain too much about this, especially as I can decant it if necessary. Holiday essential? ✅

Sanex Zero % Deoderant I’ve wanted to pick this up for a while after seeing some articles about the stuff that’s put into deodorants. It was discounted and was cheaper than the smaller size!

Loreal Absolute Makeup Remover Eye and Lip I can’t get enough of bi-phase eye makeup removers, they are always the best! I felt like trying something new after using Clarins, Garnier and Lancôme in the past. It took a while to remove the Benefit mascara but maybe I hadn’t mixed it properly as it separates super quick! I’ll give it another go, and will definitely use it up!

Benefit They’re Real mascara Again, I’ve caved! Nothing more to say other than I was very impressed with my first use!

Boots Smooth and Shine Hairbrush Since my hair has started skimming my shoulders I definitely need a softer brush in the mornings. I haven’t tried this yet, but anything is better than the hard brush I have now which hurts my head! 😢

Real Techniques Blush Brush Another item that’s been coveted for a while now. I’m already in love with the Buffing Brush and hope this will be a good one for my luminous powder and highlighting powders.

So that’s it… For now! Oh, I also bought some lunch and some Mini Eggs, which I try to hoard for the rest of year because I lurrrrve them!

Anyone else used these products? I’d love to know what you think of them!

Rimmel Lasting Finish Foundation | The Foundation Diaries

20140106-180554.jpg

20140106-174131.jpg

This was my first foray into drugstore foundation since I was a teenager. Many of the bloggers I follow rave about drugstore foundation (Wake Me Up, Happy Light, Healthy Mix Serum), but when I went to check them out I found that almost all of them are very light coverage and fairly dewy finishes.
I was back to square one in finding one to go for.

After a fairly lengthy time I found this one. I had already had the Collection Lasting Perfection Foundation in my basket but realised that this colour would match better, so it got swapped out.

The colour range if this foundation was average at best. I find that even some of the lightest shades are too warm and they oxidise quite easily on the skin making them go darker and often leaving tide lines on your face. That being said, I was pleasantly surprised by the finish of this foundation. I definitely don’t get as much coverage from my first application; in fact, it almost feels slightly watery when I apply it. I definitely have to build the coverage on this one, but in general once I have got that desired coverage it’s pretty long lasting. I’m not going to lie, I haven’t tested out the 25hr claim but, like the NARS, it lasted a busy day at work.

One thing I would say about this is that although it seemed to give me a semi matte finish and then I followed with a loose powder, my skin always felt quite tacky if I happened to touch it during the day. This made me wonder how it was actually staying in place because it felt like it would just slide away. But even so, it did still last all day, only wearing very slightly on my chin.

I don’t have any other drugstore foundations to compare to this to in terms of quality of the same type and finish of foundation, and this hasn’t set my world alight enough to make me switch from my high end foundations on a regular basis. I just don’t feel that drugstore can live up to the same quality of finish and texture as my experience with high end brands. Having said that, I have seen two blog posts recently about other medium/full coverage drugstore foundations that I’d like to try and hopefully I will be more impressed with those.

I hope this doesn’t sound like an all bad review, because it’s not meant to be, I’m just very hard to convince when things come up against my high end favourites!

Has anyone used this foundation? What did you think? If you can recommend some other drugstore foundations with this kind of coverage I’d love to hear them!
