First of all I’d like to say sorry for not posting over the last week! I was away for the weekend and have been been struck down by a darn cough/cold that will just not shift and is starting to annoy me! I’ve also been battling with bloggers block as I don’t have any pre drafted posts that I can upload when such times happen, so I’ve been trying to have a brainstorm so I can get back on it!

Review: Loreal Paris Micellar Solution and Eye Makeup Remover

20140226-112351.jpg

20140226-112322.jpg

Sorry about the extended title, I usually keep them pretty short, but I can’t really shorten that!

If you have been around these parts for a while you may have seen me briefly talk about the Loreal Paris Skin Perfection Micellar Solution in an empties post. In that post I did say that I wouldn’t repurchase and here I am with a brand new bottle (I’m so weak!).  Since then I’ve tried another two micellar waters and in general, they both did the job, but one smelt too strong and the other was too expensive for what I wanted to pay and for the size of the bottle. So I’m back to the trusty Loreal.

It really is a great product for lazy night time removal (don’t kill me!) or a pre cleanse to a face wash or cleansing balm.  I don’t ever use this to remove my eye makeup as it really doesn’t do much to budge it.  It doesn’t really have a smell per se, which sometimes bothers me as I like things to smell nice, but, I suppose the fact that they haven’t added ‘parfum’ means they’ve drastically cut down on the potential ingredients, meaning its better for the skin.

I love the ease of this cleanser.  Easy to pick up in store and I know it will be effective and not give me any sort of irritation.  It’s also great to know it can be grabbed for a night or weekend away, or put in your beach bag for daytime refreshing of skin on the beach! For the price you really can’t go wrong! I can’t compare it to Bioderma as I have never used it, but if you go on what every other blogger says about this, then it’s a total dupe!

The Eye Makeup Remover was a bit of a chance purchase. I had seen Lily Melrose claim that this was a dupe for the Clarins Instant Eye Makeup Remover, I thought ‘How could it be?!’, but decided to give it a whirl for myself. Previously I had been enjoying a Garnier one which I really love and do feel that is very similar to Clarins.

Anyway, I digress! I like the packaging of this remover, it’s small and compact, but I do find the lid gives me the same problem as the Micellar Solution. I get some wastage every time I pour the product on a cotton pad. I also find that it separates almost too quickly to use it. I hate to have a bi-phase product where you end up using the top layer more just because it doesn’t mix properly. And for me, this is where it differs to Clarins, because that mixes really well.

In terms of result, the Eye Makeup Remover is effective and gentle on the area. I do have to let it soak on the ye for a little loner or go over a few times to remove that pesky Benefit They’re Real, but that mascara is a good test for eye makeup removers. I find all bi-phase removers will leave some sort of residue on the eye area, but I am usually removing my eyes (!) first so I wall always go over with a cleanser or micellar anyway which would remove any left over product.

All in all, I like both of these products.  I think next time I’m in the market for these products I’ll give the Garnier micellar water a try – the lid looks better than this one and I think the bottle is larger for a similar price. And I’ll probably go back to the Garnier eye makeup remover that I’ve had before – again mainly due to size of bottle vs this one and price point.

What do you think of these products? How do they compare to things you have tried before?

Sometimes I worry that haul posts get a bit boring to read as there’s so many about. Personally, I love reading them and seeing what gems other people have picked up! Most of the things I picked up recently I’ve been able to use and can give a first impression review for you here. I have swatches the lip products and did a short video on Instagram of these products, you can find me here.

Yet again after being in Boots I’m always thinking that I should just do the ‘Blogger made me buy it tag’ because almost everything I pick up can be tracked back to a blogger! Anyone would think I don’t have mind of my own!

Revlon Colour Burst Lacquer Balm in Provocateur Femme Fatale (135)  I tried a few is these but this one really took my fancy. I also considered the matte ones too but it plumped for this one in the end. When I tried this on at home I felt that I needed a bit of a tan to be able to pull this one off, but as luck would have it I’m going to Egypt next week! #winner

Revlon Lip Butter in Sweet Tart The second one in my collection and another pink lip product! A much more sheer finish to the lips than the crayon, but the colours is beautiful. This actually suits me better than the other one I have (Strawberry Shortcake), so I think this will be a staple in my everyday makeup bag.

Rimmel Aplocalips Nova (102) A lot of ummm-ing and ahhh-ing was done when these first came out and I decided against one at the time, but now I feel I need one in my lip collection. I think I should’ve gone for a bright red as I’m not sure this is the perfect nude pink now that I’ve slightly changed hair colour. Pigmentation and staying power seem incredible though!

Maybelline Colour Tattoo in On and On Bronze Yes, I caved! I wasn’t too keen on the other shades available in this product other than Pomegranate, but I felt this would be an easy one to wear whilst on holiday!

Loreal Skin Perfection Micellar Solution This is a repurchase for me after I had this during the summer. I loved the product, hated the packaging! But for about 3 quid, I can’t complain too much about this, especially as I can decant it if necessary. Holiday essential? ✅

Sanex Zero % Deoderant I’ve wanted to pick this up for a while after seeing some articles about the stuff that’s put into deodorants. It was discounted and was cheaper than the smaller size!

Loreal Absolute Makeup Remover Eye and Lip I can’t get enough of bi-phase eye makeup removers, they are always the best! I felt like trying something new after using Clarins, Garnier and Lancôme in the past. It took a while to remove the Benefit mascara but maybe I hadn’t mixed it properly as it separates super quick! I’ll give it another go, and will definitely use it up!

Benefit They’re Real mascara Again, I’ve caved! Nothing more to say other than I was very impressed with my first use!

Boots Smooth and Shine Hairbrush Since my hair has started skimming my shoulders I definitely need a softer brush in the mornings. I haven’t tried this yet, but anything is better than the hard brush I have now which hurts my head! 😢

Real Techniques Blush Brush Another item that’s been coveted for a while now. I’m already in love with the Buffing Brush and hope this will be a good one for my luminous powder and highlighting powders.

So that’s it… For now! Oh, I also bought some lunch and some Mini Eggs, which I try to hoard for the rest of year because I lurrrrve them!

Anyone else used these products? I’d love to know what you think of them!

The Weekend Pamper Post… On a Monday

If you follow me on Twitter you may have seen that I’ve had a full on working weekend. It’s rare that I get two days off in a row at any time of the year, let alone the run up to Christmas. So with days off as a premium, I like to make them feel really chilled so I can recharge my batteries for the next few days.

Today, I’ve managed to prep some posts for #TheWinterProject which starts tomorrow (12/11/13), but I’ve also enjoyed a bit of a pampering hour or so before getting back to the blog!

20131111-161021.jpg
I don’t have a bath at home so really like to enjoy a nice hot shower and pamper myself. These aren’t all the products I used today, but I don’t use these every day so they were a real treat.

Before shower:
Clarins Smoothing Body Scrub Smoothed onto dry skin before the shower to slough off any dead skin before I tan a little bit later. It’s quite gritty but leaves your skin sooooo soft after your bath or shower. For a slightly less intense scrub, I use this on damp skin in between my regular body scrubs.
Jennifer Young Improve and Remove Cleansing Balm* I haven’t been using this for very long but it’s an organic cleansing balm which feels divine on the skin. I am trying a few of the products from this range at the moment and am very impressed. I am putting together an in depth post about about my skin, it probably won’t be up for another few weeks but I’m hoping this will play a big part in it!

During shower:
Loreal Ever Pure Shampoo and Conditioner I use these every so often to change up my hair routine. I have been really impressed with them and always feel my hair looks much blonder and more refreshed when I’ve used them. I’m not sure about the ‘volume’ claim for these but I still like using them as a change from my usual shampoo and conditioner.
Good Things Deep Clean Exfoliator A lightly grainy exfoliator that’s great to use on wet skin in the shower. The smell is a little intense for me as it’s soooo fruity, but I do really like the fact that it doesn’t have many of the nasties some skincare does have.

Post shower:
Sienna X Dark Glowing Self Tan A real favourite of mine! I always feel good when I have a bit of a tan, and this is the only one I really reach for. I love the colour and it doesn’t streak and lasts me at least a week, winner!

I hope you enjoyed seeing what made up my pamper this afternoon! What do you do to pamper yourself?

Lots of love
TBS xx

Product empties #1 | The Beauty Spot

20131018-215218.jpg

This post does exactly what it says on the tin! I have been hoarding a few empties for a while and was fed up of looking at the bag I was keeping them in, so what better excuse to do a post about them. This won’t be too much of an in depth review of each item, but a quick overview and then, what I like to call ‘The Crunch’ (would I repurchase?)! That’s all I ever want to know when I read Empties posts! So without further ado…
