If you ever took a look at my makeup collection, the one thing you would notice is how many ‘pink-nude’ lipsticks I own! I just can’t help myself!
As much as I love a bright lip now and again, I always find them hard to maintain throughout the day, so I opt for something that wouldn’t look too obvious if it started to wear off.
Having said that I have also discovered the power of lip liner in recent months, and although I always thought they were a slightly dated makeup product, I wouldn’t be without them now!
Below is my collection of ‘nudes’! If you would like a more detailed review of any of the lipsticks, just pop me a comment below and I’ll get it done!
(From top left: ESTEE LAUDER – DESIRABLE // SLEEK MAKEUP – LIQUEUR // MAC – PATISSERIE // CHARLOTTE TILBURY – PENELOPE PINK // ROSIE FOR AUTOGRAPH – NUDE MINK // CHARLOTTE TILBURY – BITCH PERFECT // URBAN DECAY – RUSH)
I’d love to know what your fave lipsticks are, comment below – sharing is caring! 😁
The Red Lip is something that will never go out of fashion, and is the easiest way to feel glam and ‘done’ without a huge amount of effort. A slick of red lippie can take a real toned down neutral eye daytime look, to a glam ‘cocktails straight from work’ evening look.
I have found that having a red lip ‘wardrobe’ never leaves you short, regardless of occasion! For a hydrating slightly glossy lip, look no further than the Revlon Colourburst Laquer Balm in Femme Fatale, easy to slick on, but requires frequent touch ups because of texture. I do find it stains very slightly but nothing a good micellar water can’t undo!
For that retro glam feel, one of the most famous reds of the moment: MAC Ruby Woo. This retro matte texture gives that long lasting perfect pout. Sometimes matte textures feel drying, but a hint of Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm underneath is hydrating enough but still keeps the lipstick matte. I always apply a red lip liner with this one, it gives a more precise application and if you fill in the entire lip first, if you get any wear you’ve still got colour underneath!
For a slightly more subtle matte finish, NARS Velvet Matt Lip Pencil in Pop Life is a great one to try. Somehow this formula feels amazingly light, almost as if there’s nothing on your lips. I usually think I need to reapply but the staying power is pretty good for such a smooth light feeling texture. It’s a slightly softer orangey red in comparison to Ruby Woo, but a great ‘day off’ hint of colour.
If you’re going for full on glamour with shine and intense pigment, you really can’t beat Rimmel Apolcalips in Big Bang. I’m still getting used to the texture of this, but the colour pay off is amazing! I sometimes worry with glossier textures that they’re going to slide around, so I’d always blot off any excess if I was going to eat or drink. I’ve found that this one give me an inner confidence just because I know it’s so eye catching!
A red lip is a statement, and there are so many ways of wearing it. It’s a case of being patient and trying a few types to see which suit you best!
what’s your favourite lip colour? Have you used any of these before?
Simple post on what I’m wearing today. It’s my day off from work and I sometimes try to experiment with my makeup a little more as I can usually spend a bit more time on it. Its these days that I try out new products and if I do like them I will then test them on a full day at work as that gives me a good idea on longevity of a product.
I always go for comfort on a day off, if I actually leave the house I’m usually sporting my A&F Super Skinny Jeans and a slouchy H&M t shirt – I just can’t get enough of them! Today I’ve paired these with my Primark black ankle boots and my faux leather jacket and a plain black pashmina scarf.
Makeup wise I’ve kept it pretty low key on eyes with a super bold red lip. My all time favourite foundation Clarins Everlasting (review) then just a wash of MAC Paint Pot in Groundwork followed by Benefit They’re Real Mascara on the eyes; Natural Collection Blush in Pink Cloud and Rimmel Apocalips in Big Bang on the lips. It is the brightest glossiest lip product I own I think! This is its first outing so I’m looking forward to comparing it to my other lip products.
Hope you’re all having a good day!
So I haven’t done a monthly favourites since October, mainly because I feel I haven’t used some things enough to call them a ‘favourite’! But also because I always seem to buy things mid-month and then I’m not sure if I can call them a monthly favourite! But hey it’s my blog, and can write about what I like!
So this month has been about some new additions and others that have been lurking for a couple of months already.
Topshop Sweater I rarely shop in Topshop, but this totally stole my heart when I saw it. The lovely soft cashmere-esque fabric, to the gorgeous embellishment around the collar. A perfect addition to my slightly boring winter wardrobe, that’s perfect for Sunday lunch out with the fam!
Revlon Lip Butter in Sweet Tart This made its way into my basket during my Boots Haul a couple of weeks ago and I didn’t think I’d get much wear out of it until the summer, but since I had my hair majorly lightened this has been the perfect pink for me to wear to work. Bright but not too, and beautiful texture (as we all know!).
MacBook Pro purple hard case I got this just after I got my new MacBook, but because I was sooo busy in the run up to Christmas, I didn’t christen it as much as I should. This plastic hard case is great for me as a) I don’t like the outside of my laptop looking grubby and b) I was scared to use it when I first got it for fear of scratching! This does make the MacBook heavier, so not great if you carry your around, but mine lives at home so it’s perfect!
NARS Sheer Glow Foundation I promise I will stop bleating on about his soon, but I have literally used it every day in January. I’ll save you to repeated gushing, here’s the link to my review: NARS Sheer Glow Foundation review
MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Powder in Lightscapade A beautiful slightly yellow toned highlighter that I’ve been using instead of my Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick this month. It’s been the perfect alternative, just enough highlight and not glittery.
Benefit They’re Real! Mascara The first Benefit product I have every purchased! I totally gave in to blogger hype with this one and I haven’t been disappointed! The only thing that’s a little annoying is how hard it is to remove! Even my most trusty bi-phase removers don’t budge this very easily and I don’t like to scrub at my eyes too much. But, it does wonders for how your lashes look! I really like the slightly domed end of the brush to get right in to those inner and outer corners, a real winner!
Post links to your favourites posts, I love to see what other pele are loving, my Wishlist just grows every time I read them!
I am jetting off on my holidays in a couple of weeks, and naturally, I needed a couple of lipsticks to take with me! I also ‘needed’ a highlighter, (I have a perfectly good Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick!) so I thought I’d show you what I’ve gone for on this occasion. Continue reading “Additions to my MAC collection”
