Christmas Book Wishlist | The Beauty Spot

It’s past the time of year when people start asking what you’d like for Christmas. Unless Chanel Handbags and Christian Louboutin shoes are acceptable gifts, I had nothin’!

Then, I had a lightbulb moment… Coffee table books! 💡

I’ve quite often noticed books in the background of blog pictures and YouTube videos and they always look great piled together, but they’re nice to flick through now and again for inspiration.

I’ve put together 5 books I liked the look of and created a Wish List which will be winging its way to my nearest and dearest! 😉

Pretty Honest: The Straight Talking Beauty Companion – Sali Hughes I love the cover image, eye catching and clearly one for the girls! I haven’t actually read a lot of Sali Hughes stuff, but everyone loves her, so I should totes get on her bandwagon!

Vogue: The Covers – Hamish Bowles Certainly not a ‘reading’ book. I just wanna look at the pictures, plain and simple.
IMG_1062.PNG

Chanel: Collections & Creations – Daniel Bott I’m a real Chanel lover and I’m hoping this book will live up to my expectations.

Lauren Conrad Beauty – Lauren Conrad Probably the first beauty book from a ‘new school’ reality star. I love LC’s style and can’t wait to try out some of her hair looks that I’ve heard are in here.

New York Snapshots – Carter Berg Manhattan is a fascinating city and I love seeing little gems that you would generally miss if you don’t know the city well enough, so this one will be great to see those little secret haunts of a local!

What do you think of my choices? Any other recommendations you think I’ll like? Please comment and let me know this list certainly is not exhausted!

I very often get occasions when I have a quick turnaround after getting home from work.  Friday was one of these occasions.  I need an outfit that was easy to plan, easy to dress and looked good.

Enter Missguided!

I’m a huge fan of Missguided, and regularly peruse their site if I’ve got a night out on the horizon and want to update my wardrobe – such amazing choice for great prices!  This jumpsuit was actually purchased last summer, but I’ve worn it a lot as it fits for both winter and summer nights, giving a classic tailored look. I switch up the shoes and accessories I wear with this so I don’t feel like I’m wearing the same outfit every time.

Jumpsuit – Missguided £27.99
Necklace – Primark £4
Belt – Asos £13.99 (similar)
Shoes – Primark £15
Bag – Michael Kors £109 (similar)

Hope you’re all having a lovely Mother’s Day!

What I’m Wearing

Simple post on what I’m wearing today.  It’s my day off from work and I sometimes try to experiment with my makeup a little more as I can usually spend a bit more time on it.  Its these days that I try out new products and if I do like them I will then test them on a full day at work as that gives me a good idea on longevity of a product.

I always go for comfort on a day off, if I actually leave the house I’m usually sporting my A&F Super Skinny Jeans and a slouchy H&M t shirt – I just can’t get enough of them! Today I’ve paired these with my Primark black ankle boots and my faux leather jacket and a plain black pashmina scarf.

Makeup wise I’ve kept it pretty low key on eyes with a super bold red lip.  My all time favourite foundation Clarins Everlasting (review) then just a wash of MAC Paint Pot in Groundwork followed by Benefit They’re Real Mascara on the eyes; Natural Collection Blush in Pink Cloud and Rimmel Apocalips in Big Bang on the lips. It is the brightest glossiest lip product I own I think! This is its first outing so I’m looking forward to comparing it to my other lip products.

Hope you’re all having a good day!

January Favourites

20140203-133522.jpg

So I haven’t done a monthly favourites since October, mainly because I feel I haven’t used some things enough to call them a ‘favourite’! But also because I always seem to buy things mid-month and then I’m not sure if I can call them a monthly favourite! But hey it’s my blog, and can write about what I like!

So this month has been about some new additions and others that have been lurking for a couple of months already.

Topshop Sweater I rarely shop in Topshop, but this totally stole my heart when I saw it. The lovely soft cashmere-esque fabric, to the gorgeous embellishment around the collar. A perfect addition to my slightly boring winter wardrobe, that’s perfect for Sunday lunch out with the fam!
Revlon Lip Butter in Sweet Tart This made its way into my basket during my Boots Haul a couple of weeks ago and I didn’t think I’d get much wear out of it until the summer, but since I had my hair majorly lightened this has been the perfect pink for me to wear to work. Bright but not too, and beautiful texture (as we all know!).
MacBook Pro purple hard case I got this just after I got my new MacBook, but because I was sooo busy in the run up to Christmas, I didn’t christen it as much as I should. This plastic hard case is great for me as a) I don’t like the outside of my laptop looking grubby and b) I was scared to use it when I first got it for fear of scratching! This does make the MacBook heavier, so not great if you carry your around, but mine lives at home so it’s perfect!
NARS Sheer Glow Foundation I promise I will stop bleating on about his soon, but I have literally used it every day in January. I’ll save you to repeated gushing, here’s the link to my review: NARS Sheer Glow Foundation review
MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Powder in Lightscapade A beautiful slightly yellow toned highlighter that I’ve been using instead of my Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick this month. It’s been the perfect alternative, just enough highlight and not glittery.
Benefit They’re Real! Mascara The first Benefit product I have every purchased! I totally gave in to blogger hype with this one and I haven’t been disappointed! The only thing that’s a little annoying is how hard it is to remove! Even my most trusty bi-phase removers don’t budge this very easily and I don’t like to scrub at my eyes too much. But, it does wonders for how your lashes look! I really like the slightly domed end of the brush to get right in to those inner and outer corners, a real winner!

Post links to your favourites posts, I love to see what other pele are loving, my Wishlist just grows every time I read them!

The Winter Project | Christmas Outfit of the Day

20131224-172048.jpg

It’s the final week of The Winter Project and that can only mean… IT’S CHRISTMAS EVE! I am currently manically wrapping my last few gifts while trying to apply my red lippie to get the pub for a decent time before it gets too busy! It’s tradition in my town to go to local pub and catch up with old school friends while drinking mulled wine and singing Christmas choons!
